The devastation of the earthquake was severe, with nearly every concrete structure in the region of the epicenter being damaged. or destroyed. To make matters worse, a tropical storm came through four days after, dumping rain across the region and complicating things further for the people already struggling to find food, water and shelter. OTP staff leapt into action, delivering supplies across the region, braving blockades and mudslides to access some of the affected communities. Komandan drove back and forth to deliver tents, medical supplies, and food, to those in need, including the Brenda Strafford Institute, Little Footprints Big Steps, and Maison de Naissance.
The epicenter of the quake was in an area called Petit Trou de Nippes. Les Cayes and Jeremie, of the South and Grand'Anse departments, are the two major cities that were severely affected.

After our initial response, we used our remaining "Earthquake Relief" funds to go towards building long-term shelters for 9 families in the area of Camp Perin. We partnered with AYITI INI - a grassroots group comprised of individuals who have experience building shelters after the 2010 earthquake. We have provided the funds and AYITI INI has taken care of the logistics and construction.
