The Family Support Program provides monetary support to families whose children would otherwise end up on the streets, in orphanages and/or without an education. The monetary support comes in the form of scholastic bursaries for children living in foster homes, with relatives or those living with their biological mothers/parents. Olive Tree Projects also provides health care coverage of 75% and up to $150/year for children participating in the program.
Did you know that 80% of Haitian children living in orphanages have at least one living parent? The unfortunate reality is that children are often relinquished by loving parents or relatives simply because they cannot afford to provide for the child. The FSP program aims to alleviate the financial burden associated with education and healthcare so that parents can instead focus on providing a safe home and nutritious meals for their children.
The amount and type of assistance provided is unique for each child, and often changes from year to year, depending on their needs. Some simply receive a school scholarship, while others receive a monthly stipend as well, and most receive some support from our Family Support Worker, Mirlande Joseph.
Lift the burden of school fees, supplies, uniform, transportation and tutoring of a student.
On average our children require less than $15/month to cover their medical needs.
